Magic? Voodoo? Nope - Science!

Optical fibre works by using light inside a transparent cable to carry signals, this differs from traditional lines which use low voltage over copper to carry signals. Fibre is unique because it can carry high bandwidth over long distances without loss of speed - similar technology is used to connect New Zealand to the rest of the world, in the form of huge undersea cables.

Traditional copper lines can also carry high bandwidth, but only for a short distance – after which the signal begins to degrade and speeds drop.
